A note from ILIS about Charging Guidance

The Confederation of Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA) has issued Charging Guidance (2016/17) to social work departments across Scotland. This guidance says that it was written in consultation with the ILiS project. We’d like to make it clear that we did not write this guidance, we don’t support it and we don’t support the idea that disabled people should be charged for support.  We did join a CoSLA working group that we thought would help to bring about the end to charging but this did not happen.

Disabled people are entitled to enjoy their human rights to equal participation in society. For some disabled people, social care services support that.  No one should pay for their human rights.
