Equality and Human Rights

The Equality and Human Rights Commission

We have a statutory remit to promote and monitor human rights; and to protect, enforce and promote equality across the seven "protected" grounds - age, disability, gender, race, religion and belief, sexual orientation and gender reassignment.

We believe that everyone should be treated fairly and with respect. We are here to make sure the laws about equality and human rights are followed.

We want Britain to be a country that values:

  • respect
  • freedom
  • equality
  • dignity
  • fairness

We give advice and information about the laws and rights we have in thiscountry about

  • age
  • disability
  • gender (male, female and transgender)
  • race
  • religion and belief
  • being lesbian, gay and bisexual
